Shamans and Myths

“Shamans and Myths” was the first solo exhibition in 20 years in Ankara of sculptor Mehmet Aksoy. It included works in marble, stone, and metal, inspired by Shamanism and Eastern and Western mythologies.

The sculptures in the exhibition were inspired by Shamanistic rituals and mythological stories, and featured highly mobile forms. The artist presented the viewer with Shamanism’s therapeutic qualities and imagined healing them through his works of art. Aksoy referred to Shamanism, Eastern and Western mythologies, humanity, the world of spirits, internal powers and the reverence to nature, with the aim of drawing attention to the disturbed relationship between man and nature.
