Aphrodisias

Ara Güler Museum’s first exhibition in Ankara, “Aphrodisias-Ara Güler”, hosted by Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum, with the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Volkswagen as the exhibition’s main sponsors, opens on the 30th of September. The exhibition centers on Ara Güler’s photographs of Geyre village, which Ara Güler visited for the first time in 1958 by happenstance and thereafter at every opportunity until the early 90s, now recognized as the archeological site of Aphrodisias, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The exhibition additionally comprises of Ara Güler’s original darkroom prints of Aphrodisias, his correspondence with international periodicals and agencies regarding the photographs, prints of the publications, as well as clues and notes about the preparatory stages and a maquette of Ara Güler’s book, Aphrodisias Scream.

The exhibition “Aphrodisias-Ara Güler” can be visited from 30 September 2022-28 February 2023 every day except for Monday, from 10:00-18:00.
